The first decision: storefront or service area
Before touching photos or posts, we settle one question, because getting it wrong causes most of the profile problems we are asked to fix. Does the customer come to you, or do you go to the customer?
| Storefront | Service-area business | |
|---|---|---|
| Who travels | Customers visit your location | You visit customers |
| Address on the profile | Shown publicly | Hidden; you set the areas you serve |
| Typical examples | Restaurants, clinics, retail shops | Plumbers, cleaners, mobile detailers |
| Can be both | Yes, if you receive customers at your address during stated hours and also travel to them | |
A service business that lists a home address publicly, or a shop that hides its address, is working against Google's own rules. We set this correctly first, then build the rest of the profile around it.
Getting the basics exactly right
Business name
Your profile name should match your real-world name, the one on your signage, paperwork, and phone greeting. Adding keywords or city names to it is a common shortcut and a common reason profiles get suspended.
Categories
The primary category carries the most weight, so we choose the one that describes your core business most precisely rather than the broadest option. Secondary categories are added only for services you actually offer. We check the categories nearby competitors use as a reference point, not a template.
NAP consistency
Your name, address, and phone number should read the same on your profile, your website, and the major directories. Small differences, such as a suite number written two ways or an old phone number on a forgotten listing, blur the signal. We find and correct them as part of our broader local SEO service, and a technical SEO audit checks that the details in your site's schema match too.
Keeping the profile alive
A profile that was filled out once and ignored tends to look abandoned to customers. The ongoing work is modest but steady.
Photos
Real photos of your work, your team, your vehicles, and your location if customers visit it. Stock images do little to build trust. We give you a simple shot list so taking useful photos becomes a habit.
Posts
Short updates about offers, seasonal services, or recent jobs. Posts are not a ranking shortcut, but they show that someone is home and give searchers a reason to call.
Questions and answers
Where Google still shows a questions section on your profile, we monitor it, answer real questions accurately, and flag anything misleading posted by others.
Review responses
Every review deserves a reply, and negative ones most of all. A calm, specific response to a complaint often persuades the next reader more than the complaint itself. Asking for reviews and handling harder cases is covered by our online reputation management service.
What gets profiles suspended
A suspended profile disappears from Maps, sometimes for weeks. Prevention is far easier than reinstatement.
- Virtual offices and mailboxes. Google's guidelines do not allow a profile at a virtual office or mailbox address unless it is staffed during business hours. Coworking desks and forwarding addresses are a frequent trigger.
- Keyword-stuffed names. Adding "Best Plumber Henderson" to your business name invites both suspension and competitor reports.
- Duplicate listings. Two profiles for the same business at the same address confuse Google and split your reviews.
- Sudden major edits. Changing name, address, and category all at once can trigger a re-verification. We stage important changes.
- Review gating or incentives. Offering discounts for reviews, or only asking happy customers through a filter, breaks the rules.
If your profile is already suspended, we review what likely caused it, correct it, and help you prepare a reinstatement request with supporting documents. We cannot promise the outcome, because Google makes that decision.
Profiles outside the core of the valley
Boulder City
Since the Interstate 11 bypass opened in 2018, through traffic heading to Arizona goes around Boulder City rather than through it. Local shops and service businesses there get less passing drive-by attention than they once did, so being visible on Maps matters more. Our Boulder City SEO page covers that market in more depth.
Pahrump
Pahrump is in Nye County, about an hour west of Las Vegas over the Spring Mountains via NV-160. Many trades based there travel into the valley, and some valley businesses serve Pahrump. Service-area settings need to reflect where you really go. See our Pahrump SEO page for how we handle that distance.
Whichever city you are in, profile work follows the same principle as all of our Henderson SEO services and the rest of our SEO services lineup: the profile is working when it produces calls and direction requests, not when a dashboard shows more views.
Questions we hear from business owners
How much does Google Business Profile optimization cost?
It depends on whether we are cleaning up one existing profile, fixing duplicate listings, or handling a suspension. We look at your profile first and then quote the work. Ongoing management is priced separately from the initial cleanup.
Can I list my home address if I work from home?
You can use it to verify, but if customers do not visit you there, you should set up as a service-area business and hide the address. Google shows the areas you serve instead of your street.
My profile was suspended. Can you get it back?
We can find the likely cause, fix it, and help you submit a well-documented reinstatement request. Google decides the outcome, so we cannot guarantee it. The sooner the underlying problem is corrected, the better your position.
How long until my profile shows up in more searches?
Some corrections, like fixing the primary category, can have an effect relatively quickly, while reviews and local reputation build over time. Results vary by competition and location, and nobody controls where Google places you.
